Bum Rush the Charts was a new-media event held by podcasters and bloggers on March 22, 2007 to drive a single song by an indepdendent artist up the iTunes singles charts. The idea was created weeks earlier by Mark Yoshimoto Nemcoff and Mike Yusi on the show Pacific Coast Hellway as a response to the fact that the number one album that week belonged to Chris Daughtry after fairly enemic sales of 68K units. Spearheading the idea along with Mark and Mike were podcasters C.C. Chapman, Christopher Penn, Jersey Todd and Neil Bearse. By committee the choice was made that the song "Mine Again" by the band Black Lab would be chosen as the downloadable track they would ask others to purchase on that day. Given Black Lab's track record for having been twice-signed to major labels, it was felt their story would help make a good angle to show the power of independent new media. Half of the download proceeds from that day were given to a scholarship fund to help send a needy student to college.
